"The Home for Today's Jewish Families."

Congregation B'nai Israel is a Conservative, Egalitarian Synagogue located in the heart of the Pascack Valley, in Emerson, New Jersey. With a membership of approximately 200 families, we are pleased to offer something for everyone. In 2009, we launched a new Flexible Hebrew School program for our youngest members beginning with our K-2 program and continuing through 7th grade. Our active Sisterhood, Men's Club and Social Action committees offer many programs and events throughout the year for all age groups. We offer Adult Education classes as well as Adult B'nai Mitzvah classes with our Cantor. Since 2008 we have hosted a very successful series of "Casual Shabbats" which focus on music and innovative programming to encourage all our members to try something new during Shabbat prayers. Come see what's happening at B'nai Israel and learn why we are "The Home for Today's Jewish Families."

The High Holidays represent a special time to connect with the Jewish community. Through the EZ Key program synagogues in the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey catchment area are saying "Welcome" to new members of the community (who have lived in Bergen County / Passaic County / Hudson County for two years or less) by offering free High Holiday Tickets.  Tickets are available for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services, including Kol Nidre and Yizkor.  Want more information? Please contact Elisa J. Hirsch, ElisaH@jfnnj.org or 201-820-3918.

Congregation B'nai Israel is proud to be a member of the Kehillah Partnership of Northern New Jersey. This program is an innovative, community-wide effort to build a stronger and more engaged Jewish community across institutional and denominational lines. Now in its third pilot year, the Kehillah Partnership (kehillah is Hebrew for community) aims to reinvigorate community through the sharing of resources, the enhancement and integration of informal and formal Jewish education for all ages, and the creation of new opportunities for the unengaged to connect and identify. By "linking the silos" and facilitating institutional collaboration at every level - between the JCCs, the synagogues, and the UJA Federation - the Kehillah Partnership strengthens the traditional pillar agencies of the community while making Jewish life more affordable and offering added value: the creation of new programs and opportunities for individuals and families both within and outside the traditional communal structure to connect and identify.
